Orange Almond Chocolate Chunk Cookies with Sea Salt

IMG_4632These are pretty epic. To be fair I was trying to copy the Soho salted chocolate chunk cookies but I feel I’ve one-up’d them by my orange/almond combo. I can’t truly take credit for that because I meant to buy the Trader Joe’s giant chocolate bar and ONCE AGAIN accidently bought the ones with almonds. This time I persevered with my mistake and it ended up working out wonderfully. These are soft but chewy and super decadent. The orange is not overpowering and the almond is subtle. I’ll be bold and say this might be a new favorite cookie recipe. Huge claim.

You’ll need:

2.75 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

0.75 teaspoon baking soda

0.5 teaspoon kosher salt

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1 cup packed light-brown sugar

0.75 cup granulated sugar

1.5 tablespoon orange zest

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

12-15 ounces chocolate almond bars chopped*

Flaky sea salt

*I used the Trader Joe’s giant Bittersweet Chocolate Almond Bar (which I bought on accident) but it turned out delicious

Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt for 30 seconds. In a separate bowl whip together the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar and orange zest until creamy. Add in eggs, one at a time, until combined. Add in vanilla and mix until combined. Slowsly add in the flour mixture and mix until just combined. Stir in chocolate almond chunks. Shape dough into large balls (mine were 3 ounces). Transfer balls to plates, cover with plastic wrap and chill 1 hour.

Transferred chilled cookie dough balls to a parchment lined baking sheet. Press down slightly and topped with flaked sea salt. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 11 minutes. Allow to cool for a while- I tried to sneak one early and they fell apart.
